Resting and Waiting

Don’t you just love it when God reminds you of things you need to work on?

And, most often He isn’t very subtle about it, He just comes right out and says it.

Like in Psalm 37:7 … it says … “Rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him; do not fret because of him who prospers in his way.”

Now, God knows that I have a hard time resting and waiting, but He doesn’t have to be so direct.

Yet, I needed to hear this from God today. I needed to be reminded of the importance, not only of resting and waiting, but of resting and waiting in and for Him.

You see, I’m very guilty of burning the candle at both ends and getting ahead of God, which by the way, never ends well.

And … I think we’re all guilty of that at times, because life is similar to a race. We don’t rest or wait because no one else is resting or waiting. We tend to focus on the man … “who prospers in his way”

Everyone else seems to be passing us, getting their degrees, landing that great job, climbing the ladder of success, buying that new house or car, and we’re so afraid we’re going to fall behind or be viewed as lacking drive and ambition. So, we feel that we can’t afford to rest and wait.

But, in reality it’s like the person who comes speeding by you on the road and at the next stop light you are sitting right beside them. They may have gotten there faster, but you ended up at that same place, and think about what they missed along the way.

So, do you feel that you’re racing through life and can’t take the time to rest? Are there things that you feel you must accomplish right now? If so, don’t fret, rest in the LORD and wait patiently for Him. Trust in … His way … instead of … man’s way … and He will help you accomplish all that you need to accomplish and you’ll enjoy the journey without having to speed through life.
