Proverbs 19:21 tells us that … “There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless the LORD’S counsel … that will stand.”
As I begin to plan for a New Year, I do so with excitement and anticipation. However, I also approach it with caution and thoughtfulness. Why? Well, one reason is that I love to plan, and if I’m not careful and thoughtful I will either get ahead of God or lag behind Him.
Now, if you’ve ever gotten ahead of God, it doesn’t work out very well. How often I’ve seen my well-intended, best-laid-plans crumble before my very eyes. Also, there have been times that I’ve trailed behind God and missed out on some really wonderful blessings and opportunities.
This reminds me of how, prior to cell phones, people had to sync their watches to ensure they were working within the same time frame.
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a way that we could sync our plans with God’s counsel? Oh, but wait, there is! It’s called prayer and scripture. It’s taking time to seek His plan and listen to His counsel and allowing it to determine our plans.
I hope you are as excited about the New Year as I am, but let’s move ahead cautiously and thoughtfully. Let’s sync our plans with His counsel through prayer and scripture.
